SSTAR and iPLUG showcase innovative multiport converters and solid-state transformers during ConNetEU webinar.
On May 8th, 2025, during the ConNetEU Cluster webinar “Advancing Power Electronics in Distribution Networks”, the EU-funded projects SSTAR and iPLUG shared valuable insights into energy-efficient solutions and sustainable technologies aimed at driving innovation in Europe’s energy sector.
The two pioneering initiatives presented advanced power electronics, including multiport converters and Solid-State Transformers (SSTs). iPLUG presented innovations in planning and operation strategies for multiport converters, covering both medium-voltage and low-voltage converter topologies, with emphasis on their design and control. SSTAR focused on advancing Solid-State Transformers for high-voltage grids, including the development of high-insulation Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) designs, evaluation of dielectric fluid performance, and strategies for integrating storage systems into medium-voltage networks.
The event fostered technical discussion, highlighting key challenges and gaps within distribution networks, and encouraged collaboration to advance progress in the power sector.
A conclusive Q&A session allowed participants to explore barriers and identify new research opportunities in the field.
